Nasikia Camps

Of my two trips to Tanzania, I have stayed with Nasikia Camps both times. My first trip I had no connections so I booked using the travel company Go2Africa. I recommend booking with a travel company for your first safari, there a so many locations, lodges, and itineraries; booking with an agency is seamless and they can provide you with the best rates and help tailor your safari to your needs. I am so glad they booked the camps they did that first trip. Nasikia operates six camps/lodges throughout the Northern safari circuit in Tanzania, one of which is mobile and moves depending on the season and location of the wildebeest. I have stayed at four of the six properties and could not recommend them higher.

That all being said, you will be glamping. If you are more of a Four Seasons or Ritz person, these might not be for you. Two of their properties have a pool, those being Tarangire Ndovu Tented Lodge, and Mandhari Lodge-this lodge offers spa treatments as well, this is one of their properties I have not stayed at. The properties I have stayed at are Tarangire Ndovu Tented Lodge, KasKaz Mara Camp, Naona Moru Camp, and the Nasikia Mobile Migration Camp in Ndutu. The service is amazing, and I really appreciated that I saw familiar faces when I returned, that shows me that the company is doing something right and treating their employees well.

There are no fences around any of these properties so often you will have wildlife come through camp. At Tarangire for example, elephants and other animals would come and drink from the pool. There were nights we had to be drive the short distance to our tents because animals were in camp and it wasn’t safe for us to walk. Sure your first night can be a little nerve-racking but just know safety is a priority and there are staff members around and available for support. I must also give props to Tarangire Ndovu because their food is phenomenal, I had a braised lamb shank there that I still think about often, and I’m not even a huge lamb fan. Kaskaz also deserves some props because they know how to make their guests feel valued, this last trip in February, I was the only guest staying there and my last night they made a cake special for me, thanking me for coming back and staying again, and having Moodie as my guide. It’s the little things that I really appreciate.

While you might be glamping, you will have hot water, a flushing toilet, and most have outlets for you to charge your devices in your room. At the mobile camps it is a little different because they don’t have the same infrastructure, you still will have hot water and a flush toilet but you will have to let the staff know when you are ready to shower so they can get the hot water ready, and these camps also don’t have charging ports in the room but you can charge everything in the main tent.

When planning my second safari in Tanzania it was really important to me to stay with Nasikia again, not only because I love their accommodations but also because Moodie is one of their guides, and I was adamant that he was going to be my guide for the duration of the trip. Instead of using Go2Africa again I used Maasai Wanderings because they own Nasikia, and it just made booking so much easier. Maasai Wanderings is owned by a lovely woman named Donna, and they specialize in all things Tanzania, but also Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda. You can read more about their mission here.

I encourage you to check out Nasikia and Maasai Wanderings for your next trip, you can’t go wrong. In addition to such lovely accommodations, they do a lot to give back to the community, and also a part of various conservation and preservation efforts.
